Tummy Tuck Patient, London

The Tummy Tuck in London is also known as an abdominoplasty. The surgical procedure works to decrease the amount of fat located around the stomach, tightening the muscles and making the patient appear more toned. The abdominoplasty is ideal for those with unwanted fat or sagging skin around the tummy. It’s also perfect for those who are at their target weight, but have not achieved their perfect figure.

TREATMENT OVERVIEW

WHAT IS A TUMMY TUCK SURGERY?

The Tummy Tuck at our London hospital provides patients with a flatter, more toned stomach, tightening skin and removing excess fat. Many who have lost weight, or have sagging skin around the abdomen opt to have an abdominoplasty. It is also perfect for those who dislike their body image following weight loss or pregnancy, or as a result of the natural ageing process. The fat that collects around the stomach is often the hardest to lose via diet and exercise, and without the help of cosmetic surgery, is almost impossible to eliminate or even reduce. Of course, the Tummy Tuck is available to men and women. The surgery not only requires extraordinary surgical skill, but also relies on the artistry of our surgeon. Please note that an abdominoplasty is not a weight loss procedure and is designed for those who have stubborn fat left over despite dieting and exercising.

During the procedure, our surgeons work to tighten muscles and skin, resulting in a more sculpted look. You’ll be able to notice an instant result. We play close attention to scar placement, belly button shape, and the curves that give you your unique natural shape. The goal is to create a more sculpted look and we must consider the contours on your body to provide a natural looking result. We work to also place the scar as low as possible, so it can be covered by bikini bottoms, or pants.

There are three different types of abdominalplasty available for you to discuss with our surgeon. He will assess you and suggest the best course of action to take to enable the most effective results. You will also be able to combine your surgery with other procedures to enhance the results. The three types of surgery are:

1 – Partial (mini) abdominoplasty

2 – Complete (full) abdominoplasty

3 – Extended abdominoplasty

Childbirth and weight loss can dramatically affect the body, leading to individuals feeling self-conscious or unhappy with their body. A negative self-body image can also cause relationship problems. Luckily, our safe and effective surgery can provide long term results and help with the following concerns.

  • Unwanted fat around the abdomen
  • Unwanted loose skin following weight loss or pregnancy
  • Sagging skin around the abdomen
  • Stretch marks or other scars
  • Stubborn fat that remains despite dieting and exercising
  • A bad posture

Surgery is carried out under general anaesthetic. Your abdominoplasty procedure will first begin with an expert medical consultation with one of our surgeons. During your appointment, we will discuss your goals and concerns whilst taking a full medical history. Our London private hospital specialises in body contouring and body sculpting procedures and is home to the very best cosmetic surgeons.

What happens during a tummy tuck?

During an abdominoplasty our surgeon will first make two incisions. One along the bikini line, from hip to hip. The second incision is made around the belly button. Excess fat and skin are removed before our surgeon correctly positions the remaining skin to ensure a tighter, more sculpted appearance. A hole is then made to place the belly button (naval). Patients will have a scar at the inciosion sites, but this will fade overtime. Incisions are also made at areas usually covered. You’ll then be stitched up and dressings applied before recovering at our private facility.

FAQS

Here are the top questions that patients ask us before undergoing a Tummy Tuck and their answers. If you would like to learn more about abdominoplasty surgery, request a consultation.

If you are concerned about your body shape and the loose skin or fat surrounding your stomach, you’ll likely be a candidate for a Tummy Tuck. Suitable candidates will be at their ideal weight, but not their ideal shape.

Patients will be able to see an instant difference to their body shape if a significant amount of fat and loose skin has been removed. You will notice swelling and bruising for up to 4 months following the procedure and scars will be present, but reduce over time. Depending on the type of surgery, you should allow up to 12 months for complete results.

There will be some pain and discomfort following your Tummy Tuck. This can be managed with medication. It’s very normal to experience swelling, bruising, and potentially even some minor bleeding. Pain and discomfort will reduce after the first week of surgery. Please discuss your concerns with our surgeon.

Results following a Tummy Tuck are permanent as fat and skin cannot grow back after surgery. Significant weight fluctuations can cause fat cells to increase in size, resulting in further excess fat and loose skin. Pregnancy following a Tummy Tuck can also have a negative effect on muscles and the procedure.

Depending on the complexity of the surgery and your concerns, the procedure at our London hospital will take approximately 2-4 hours.

After your procedure, you will recover in our hospital for the time suggested by your surgeon. This is normally 2-4 days. Once we are satisfied, you will be discharged from hospital and must follow the aftercare advice provided by our team. It is important to have plenty of rest following treatment.

Following a Tummy Tuck you will be able to do some very light exercise 3-4 days after surgery. You should not attend the gym or play any sports for at least 4-8 weeks.

You should closely follow the advice provided by your surgeon after treatment. Generally, you will follow the below steps following surgery.

  • Rest in bed at home for the first 1-3 days
  • Get up and walk around as soon as it is comfortable to do so
  • Avoid strenuous activity and stretching
  • Take up to 4 weeks off work depending on your job role
  • Gradually increase activity levels from light walking around the home to going up and down the stairs
  • Do not go walking outside of the house for longer than 10 minutes in the first few days/weeks
  • Avoid sports and heavy lifting for up to 2 months
  • Paracetamol and ibuprofen are fine to take to ease pain
  • Wear support clothing if advised by your consultant
