TREATMENT OVERVIEW

WHAT IS a FACELIFT?

Have you considered a facelift? Over time the face changes shape, more wrinkles appear and you’ll start to notice sagging. Lines on the forehead become more predominant and you may develop a second chin or see visible signs of ageing around the neck. A facelift at London Private Hospital offers a boost in self-confidence and a more youthful appearance. After the Rhytidectomy procedure, you’ll visibly look younger, however maintain a natural look. Many patients visit our London hospital to reduce the appearance of loose jowls. Jowls are a term to describe the skin between the chin and jawline that begins to sag over time. Skin loses its elasticity due to the decline in collagen and elastin.

During the procedure excess skin is removed on the face and the skin is tightened. A Rhytidectomy is suitable for those who are unhappy with their appearance and are experiencing moderate to significant sagging. The procedure is suitable for both men and women and also reduces deep folds or creases around the mouth, cheeks and eyes. A facelift is also suitable for patients who have lost weight and are unhappy with the excess skin left behind. The facelift aims to smooth, reduce lines, lift, tighten, volumise and revive skin. During treatment, we can target the following concerns.

  • Correct facial volume loss
  • Fix hollows under the eyes
  • Correct drooping eyebrows
  • Reduce forehead lines
  • Reduce frown lines
  • Reduce nasolabial folds and marionette lines
  • Correct sagging jowls
  • Correct skin laxity

A facelift is carried out under general anaesthetic and our London hospital is home to the UKs top facelift surgeons. During the procedure itself, you will be asleep and be comfortable. There are a number of different methods for our surgeons to choose from. The suitable procedure will be selected depending on your concerns, goals and the extent of ageing.

You’ll benefit from long term results, however will need to commit to a recovery time of 2 to 4 weeks.

TYPES OF FACELIFT SURGERY

There are a number of different approaches to take when conducting facelift surgery. They include traditional surgery, keyhole surgery and MACS (Minimal Access Cranial Suspension).

Traditional Facelift – The traditional facelift is the most popular and often promotes the most effective results. An incision is made in your hairline behind the ear, to cover any potential scars. During the rhytidectomy, your surgeon separates the skin from any underlying tissue and works to reposition the skin, to create a tighter, smoother appearance. Skin is then stitched up in the new position with any excess skin being removed first. The traditional facelift is the most invasive type of lift, so patients are required to stay overnight in hospital with bandages being applied to the face in order to reduce swelling/bruising. Patients would consider a traditional facelift if they have sagging or loose jawlines, a large number of wrinkles and deep creases, drooping or hooded eyes and sagging facial muscles.

Keyhole – Keyhole surgery involves small cuts being made which rarely require stitches to access tissue or muscles that need tightening or restructuring. Usually keyhole facelift surgery is carried out on patients who have particular concerns on the upper face and brow area. The main benefit to keyhole surgery is there are fewer scars left behind but not everybody is suitable for this type of surgery. We assess patient’s suitability during the initial consultation.

MACS Facelift – The MACS (Minimal Access Cranial Suspension) face lift involves a smaller incision being made behind the ear and is less invasive than a traditional facelift. It targets key areas of facial sagging and scars are less noticeable too. It aims to suspend facial features from above.
