Ear correction surgery in London is also known as an Otoplasty procedure. It involves altering the ear shape and position slightly to enhance your overall appearance. The Otoplasty can reduce how much ears stick out, pinning them back, improving self-confidence. Surgery is minimally invasive and our surgeons work to correct a variety of concerns relating to the ears.

TREATMENT OVERVIEW

WHAT IS ear correction SURGERY?

The ears contribute towards facial structure and how the face is framed, making them an integral part of your appearance. If the ears are oversized or misshapen, they can cause an individual to think negatively about them. The London Private Hospital offers ear correction surgery, performed by specialist Otoplasty consultants. The Otoplasty is considered as cosmetic surgery because the performance of the ear is not altered at all. Some may refer to the surgery as ear pinning.

Most people who find that they have prominent ears try to hide their ears with their hair and often wear hats or hair bands. The Otoplasty restore confidence and creates balance.

Ear correction surgery can correct a number of issues but ultimately brings the ears closer to the head, where they stick out too far. Ear surgery in London can also correct overly large ears, create facial balance and harmony, correct asymmetry, correct ears that are considered too small and provide further enhanced results for those who have previously undergone an Otoplasty. Ear correction surgery can also treat other cosmetic defects, like cauliflower ears.

The Otoplasty, also known as ear pinning works to take prominent ears and set them back symmetrically to make them look more natural along the contour of the face. What characterises a prominent ear includes:

  1. How far the ear protrudes from the face.
  2. Has the ear got the antihelical fold?
  3. The size of the ball within the ear.

The procedure is not suitable for everybody and our surgeon will need to assess you during your consultation. Every individual is unique and has different concerns. The key to a successful Otoplasty is that the ears are set back symmetrically and look the same from the front view. We also need to ensure that ears are not overly corrected. The crease that’s made needs to be smooth and natural looking.

Surgery is normally carried out under local anaesthetic. Your Otoplasty or ear correction procedure will first begin with an expert medical consultation with one of our surgeons. During your appointment, we will discuss your goals and concerns whilst taking a full medical history. Our London private hospital specialises in Otoplasty procedures and is home to the very best cosmetic surgeons.

What happens during aN OTOPLASTY?

The surgical procedure lasts for around 1-2 hours and is carried out under local anaesthetic. Our techniques vary depending on the concerns of our patient. We tend to make the surgical incisions around the back of the ear or in the creases to avoid noticeable scars. After making these incisions, your surgeon will may remove excess cartilage or skin and fold the skin of the ear into the correct position. You will then receive stitches to secure the position before being covered in bandages for support. After the procedure is complete, you will recover in our private facility until you are discharged. For recovery information, please read our FAQs.

FAQS

Here are the top questions that patients ask us before undergoing ear correction surgery and their answers. If you would like to learn more about Otoplasty surgery, request a consultation.

An Otoplasty procedure is suitable for anybody who is unhappy with the prominence of their ears. The procedure offers correction of overly large ears, ears that stick out too much and uneven ears. Patients will be healthy and able to commit to a proper recovery.

As with most cosmetic procedures, results are not instant and you should dedicate time and energy to your recovery. Normally patients will see positive results within three month of surgery.

Pain after an Otoplasty can be managed with painkillers. It’s very normal to experience swelling, bruising, and potentially even some minor bleeding. Normally the ears will be sensitive within the first week of surgery. Please discuss your concerns with our surgeon.

Results following ear correction surgery are permanent and patients can enjoy results without the need for further surgical procedures. Once the ear has grown to its full size, it is unlikely that any natural changes will occur to ears.

Depending on the complexity of the surgery and your concerns, the ear correction surgery at our London hospital will take approximately 1-2 hours.

After your procedure, you will recover in our hospital for the time suggested by your surgeon. Patients can normally return home the same day, with few having to stay overnight. Once we are satisfied, you will be discharged from hospital and must follow the aftercare advice provided by our team.

Adults of any age are suitable for an Otoplasty. Teenagers may also be suitable too.

Patients may be able to wear a headband for protection whilst sleeping. In the first week, you should avoid sleeping on your sides.

Risks and complications can be minimised by choosing a reputable ear correction clinic and surgeon. If you are concerned, please get in touch with our hospital. Here are some of the possible risks and side effects.
